What are the Different Styles of Poker Players?



Playing poker and knocking out the opponents is a battle. The players who use low-lying hats, headphones, dark sunglasses and mesmerizing clothes as weapons instead of bulletproof vests, shields and barricades to compete with the opponents. When you play poker online or live, players come across different types of opponents who have their style to play the game. Read to know more about the poker players and their different style.

Newbie

A poker enthusiast with less or no experience in playing the game is known as the newbie. They are also known as noobs as they have little know-how about the game but still not willing to learn on their own.

Fish

Fish is the weakest player in poker because of their bad play. They are recreational or novice players who like to play and found playing at lower limits sometimes. They are also known as a donkey; you cannot bluff a fish as the bets they play make no sense at all.

Maniac

Maniacs are the crackpots who play all hands and raise or re-raise with any cards whether bad or good. These type of players are highly aggressive and spoil others by adding many swings to the bankroll. Often the maniacs may seem to be easy to play player but they can put the table on tilt due to their indiscipline style of playing.

Sharks

As the name suggests, sharks are the craftiest player of all. They are all-rounders in every aspect of the game and can style their game as per the opponent's play. They are expert in reading opponents, shaping poker face and playing bets like they have a bad hand or are chasing. These traits help the sharks to make money out of a hand as they can.

Calling station

These poker players prefer to call more than raising no matter what cards they hold. These players get lucky sometimes when the cards fall in favor on board and this is because of the poor and incompetence playing style. Calling stations to play any two suited cards and fold these cards rarely if they hit a flop. These players will play K9 suited and will not fold the hand if he hits K on the flop, ignoring the aspects of the game like how many players are in the pot.

Rock

These players are opposite to Calling Station as they take more risks and play premium hands only in the top range. They are also called Nit. These players have enough patience to sit and wait for ultra-premium hands. The players play only Pocket Kings, Pocket Aces, Ace-King and Pocket Queens. If you are re-raised ever by a Rock player, fold hands up to Q-Q.

ABC Poker

ABC Poker is considered the right strategy to play poker online and win the game. A player is Mr.ABC Poker if he follows and plays ‘by the book’ that help them outplay newbies. They know it all, they are well-versed with a theoretical aspect like blind structure, elementary play on one side and well-trained in practically of the game like when to raise 3x the big blind or when to shove if short stacked.
